Monmouth, Ill. – After a long awaited return to the field, the Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse team fell to Monmouth College 19-1.
Inside the Box
- Peter Borkowski (St. Louis, Mo.) grabbed himself 18 saves on the night, his highest of the season.
- Jarred Tabor (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the Cougars with six total shots, two shots on goal, and one goal.
- Borkowski, Justin Headley (Nottingham, Md.), and Zach Cicero (Chicago, Ill.) led the defensive end with three groundballs apiece.
- Headley led the Cougars in faceoffs after winning four on the night.
From the start the Cougars went on the defensive end, relying on freshman goalie Borkowski to grab back to back saves to open the game. Finally getting the ball on the offensive end, shots from Headley, Tabor,
Andrew Lechuga (El Monte, Calif.), and
Sean Dooley (Ocala, Fla.) couldn't get past the goalie. Fighting fatigue early in the second quarter, the Cougars allowed nine goals creating a deficit they wouldn't be able to recover from. As the first half came to a close, Tabor was able to get past his defender and sail a goal in from the 25 yard line.
Fresh out of halftime, Headley won the faceoff giving the Cougars possession. A high shot form Tabor gave possession back to the Scots, but another save from Borkowski and a successful clear sent the Cougars on the hunt for a second goal. A shot from
Aidan Vizi (Bethel, Ct.) deflected by the goalie left the Cougars unable to convert. Ten total shots in the second half were unlucky in finding the inside of the net as the Cougars remained stagnant with their lone goal.
With the clock winding down and the Cougars running out of time, they ultimately fell 19-1. This Cougar team will be back home this Saturday for an 11am start time against Northland College. Coverage can be found at
