Cougars Lose Season Finale Against Green Knights

De Pere, Wis --- It was the final time the Concordia University Chicago (3-6, 2-5) football team geared up this season. They traveled north to take on the St. Norbert College Green Knights (6-3, 5-2) in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchup. The air raid from the Green Knights was too much for the Cougars, as St. Norbert went on to win 54-0.

Inside the Box Score
  • Blake Henson led the Cougars with six carries for 23 yards on the ground.
  • Martin Egbo tallied the longest rush of the day of 21 yards.
  • E'derian Sykes hauled in three receptions for 65 yards.
  • Brandon Arredondo led CUC on defense with eight tackles followed by Travon Thomas with seven. Thomas also notched his third interception of the season in the fourth quarter.
After receiving the opening kickoff, CUC off broke their biggest play of the game with a 58-yard reception by E'derian Sykes. Moving from their own 27-yard line to the Green Knights' 15, it looked to be a promising start for the CUC offense. CUC couldn't punch it in the endzone, so they brought out the field goal unit. Ryan Auer's 35-yard attempt was blocked and kept the Cougars off the scoreboard.

St. Norbert was the first to strike in the final minutes of the opening quarter. A nine play 79-yard drive ended with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Richie Gilles to Parker Lawrence. At the end of the first quarter, St. Norbert led 7-0.

In the second quarter, St. Norbert's Own Kudick rushed in the first of his three touchdowns in the game from eight yards out. A 33-yard field goal from Dan Simon on the next drive made it 17-0 St. Norbert.

CUC needed an offensive sparkplug and got it from their junior defensive lineman Martin Egbo. On 4th and three, Egbo took the redirected snap for 21 yards and a first down. It gave the Cougars some new life and another play to add to the special teams highlight reel. St. Norbert scored another touchdown before halftime, but the extra point was blocked. At the end of the first half, St. Norbert led 23-0.

The Green Knights controlled the second half. Three rushing touchdowns and a score through the air put St. Norbert up handsomely. A field goal in the fourth quarter was the final score of the game, and made it 54-0 Green Knights.

The Cougars finished the 2022 season with 3-6 regular season record and 2-5 in conference play. For more information about CUC football and everything Cougar athletics, head over to cucougars.com.
