Warriors Defeat Cougars

Wauwatosa, Wis. – The Concordia University Chicago football team (2-6, 1-5 NACC) hit the road to take on the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors (4-4,  4-2 NACC) resulting in a 30-7 loss.

Inside the Box
  • E'derian Sykes (Lake Village, Ark.) picked up the only touchdown of the day for the Cougars while also grabbing a total of 21 yards on three receptions and a gain of 37 yards on 11 rushing attempts.
  • Travon Thomas (Wauchula, Fla.) and Brandon Arredondo (Dalton, Ga.) led the defensive end for the Cougars with seven total tackles a piece while BJ Pitts (Waco, Texas) stepped ahead with nine total tackles.
  • Justin Aduo (Grand Prairie, Texas) picked up two sacks and forced a fumble while Thomas grabbed the lone interception of the day.
  • Troy Pratley (St. Joseph, Mich.) went 7 for 16 throwing the ball for a total of 26 yards while rushing for a gain of 50 yards.
The Cougars struggled to get things going to start the game, and allowed the Warriors to score on their first drive. After falling behind 13-0, the Cougar offense started to find some heat in the second quarter. An offensive drive consisting of rushes from Sykes, Blake Henson (Potosi, Mo.), and Christian Covington (Corinth, TX) put the Cougars in position to score. On a first and goal attempt, Pratley rushed for two but was unable to get in the end zone. The next drive went to Sykes who was able to get into the end zone to put the Cougars on the board. A good PAT from Ryan Auer (Newark, Ohio) brought the score within reach at 13-7

With the second half kickoff going into Cougar arms, CUC needed to find a spark after giving up a Warrior touchdown in the closing minute of the first half. Back-to-back rushes for Sykes were unable to convert and put the game back in the defense's hands. Knowing the defense needed to pick it up, Aduo picked up a massive sack in the backfield to give the Cougars the momentum they needed.

On the following offensive drive, the Cougars marched down the field but after an incomplete attempt from Pratley down the field to Covington, they were forced to punt. As WLC continued to dominate on offense the Cougar defense was back to work. Another massive Aduo sack forced a fumble that senior Julian Ramirez (Zion, Ill.) was able to pick up.

Unable to convert on offense again, the Warriors took over in their offensive end. Thomas found himself in position to pick off the throw on a Warrior first and ten, switching the gears back to the Cougar offense.

With the Warriors continuing to dominate, the clock ran out with a final score of 30-7. Following today's game the Cougars come back home for their final home game of the season as they honor their seniors. Kickoff against Benedictine is set for 1:00 PM in River Forest.
