River Forest, Ill. — The 2022 Concordia University Chicago men's soccer (3-11-1) season came to a close Wednesday afternoon, as their Division Street rival, Dominican University (10-3-3, 7-3-2), made the short trek to Concordia Stadium. The Stars defense stood tall all game, blanking CUC 3-0.
Inside the Box Score
It took Dominican less than 10 minutes to open the scoring up, when a foul on Quinn Kelly (Wentzville, Mo.) led to a penalty kick from John Cronnolly finding the back of the net. Cronnolly struck again just under two minutes later, when he was able to steal the ball from an out-of-position Pasut and fire it into the open goal .
The Cougars tried their best to knot things up before halftime, but the Stars's goalie, Oscar Cerritos, shut the door, stopping three Concordia shots on goal.
Shultz took over in net for the second half with his team down 2-0. The freshman was immediately challenged by Cronnolly, who dribbled himself into a 1-on-1 with Shultz and then potted his third of the game to complete the hattrick.
Both Shultz and Cerritos turned it on from the remainder of the half. After Cronnolly's third, Shultz kept the Stars at bay, including two saves within two minutes of each other. Cerritos meanwhile stood on his head at points, particularly on last ditch attempts from German Tinoco (Lyons, Ill.) and Frank, on his way to nine saves.
CUC failed to beat Cerritos before the final buzzer, while Cronnolly provided all the offense needed by Dominican as they shutout the Cougars, 3-0.
