Box Score Beloit, Wis. – The Concordia University Chicago football team made the trek up to Beloit College for the 2021 season opener Saturday night, Sept. 5. Five months after finishing their 2020 campaign, the Cougars took to the gridiron to start a new era for this team. After the opening kickoff, CUC showed no signs of slowing down as they won this opening game 30-7.

The Cougars punched in another touchdown in the early going of the second quarter on a Sepulveda quarterback sneak on the 1-yard line. The CUC special team unit forced a safety from an errant Buccaneer snap on fourth-down to bring the score to 23-0 at halftime.

Nate Speed II (Douglasville, Ga.). The Buccaneers scored their first points of the game on a 15 play drive capped off by a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Emiliano Reyes (Beloit, Wis.) with 1:23 left in the game.
In the end, the Cougars prevailed 30-7. CUC totaled a staggering 491 yards on offense, with 263 rushing yards and 228 passing yards. The Cougar defense held the Buccaneers to 185 yards, with two key takeaways by Brendan Baugh (Tamarac, Fla.) and
Lenny Woods (Dover, Fla.).
Individual Offensive Highlights
- Quarterback Sepulveda threw for 218 yards with three total touchdowns.
- Daniles rushed for 146 yards and one touchdown
- Covington hauled in six receptions for 76 yards and one touchdown.
Individual Defensive Highlights
- With one minute left in the first half, Baugh intercepted a deflected Buccaneer pass in the endzone to keep Beloit off the board in the first half.
- Freshman Lenny Woods (Dover, Fla.) recorded his first collegiate interception in the fourth quarter.
- Senior defensive back Earl Macintyre (Smithville, Texas) led the defense with six total tackles and one tackle for loss.
CUC is back in action next Saturday, Sept. 11, when they travel to Finlandia College. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. EST.
