Henline secures All-Tournament team honors after team's 2-0 day at Red Hawk Invite

The Concordia University Chicago women's volleyball team swept Rockford University and Ripon College.

Ripon, Wis. – The Concordia University Chicago women's volleyball team finished up the final day of the Red Hawks Invitational hosted by Ripon College. They played Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponent Rockford University in their opening match of the day followed by a match against hosts Ripon.
 
During their non-conference match against Rockford, the Cougars were able to sweep the Regents. In the three games, was only able to get within four of the Cougars. CUC kept a comfortable lead throughout as they prepare to take on the Regents at home on Tuesday.
 
Highlights of the Match:
  • Alyssa Henline (Fort Wayne, Ind.) continues to be the offensive pressure the Cougars need. She finished the match with 15 kills and only five errors (.263 hitting percentage). She also contributed eight digs on defense.
  • Julia Beers (Mishawaka, Ind.) held down the defense in the back row, finishing with 14 digs against the Regents. Sophie Kovachevich (Huntley, Ill.) also had the second-most digs on the team with 10.
  • Isabelle Vernengo (Plainfield, Ind.) set the pace for the offense again today as she recorded 35 assists.
  • Chloe Martin (Effingham, Ill.) started in today's match and made an impact at the net. She tallied four blocks, including one solo block and three assisted blocks.
 
The Cougars had one match off before they hit the court again to take on the Red Hawks of Ripon College. Again, Concordia earned another sweep as they defeated the Red Hawks in three. Ripon was unable to close the hole that CUC made starting early in each set.
 
Highlights of the Match:
  • Henline and Katie Stonich (Sadieville, Ky.) had big matches from the pin. Again, Henline led the team in kills with 16 while also registering an impressive .500 hitting percentage (16 kills, 1 error, 30 attempts). Stonich recorded 10 kills of her own. Both of these outside hitters also finished with double-doubles during this match, with Henline grabbing 13 digs while Stonich had 12.
  • Beers showed up big again on back row defense for the Cougars. The libero finished with a team-high 16 digs, which puts her within 150 digs of reaching 1,000 in her career.
  • Since Martin's return to the lineup, she has been making an impact for CUC. She hit .467 (7 kills, 0 errors, 15 attempts) while securing a block.
  • Kovachevich did a phenomenal job from the service line, recording five aces in this three-set match.
 
At the end of the tournament, coaches voted on members of the All-Tournament team. Once votes were calculated, Henline earned a spot on the team. Over the course of the weekend, she accumulated 63 kills, 47 digs, seven aces and two blocks.  
 
Concordia will have two days off before they host their first game in Geiseman Gymnasium on Tuesday, Sept. 22. They will face Rockford yet again, but this time, the game will count towards both teams' conference records. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
