The Concordia University Chicago men's and women's track and field teams competed in the NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 7 and 8 at Wisconsin Lutheran College. After two days of competition, the women's team finished in fourth out of nine teams while the men's team finished in ninth out of 10.

On the first day of the meet, sophomore
Lora Haupt (Northville, Mich.) earned the first medal of the meet. She grabbed a second-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 2.97 meters, which is a new personal best for her. Senior
Cassandra Garza (Grafton, Wis.) also had a good showing as she finished in third for the hammer with a throw of 39 meters.

The success continued for the women heading into the second day of the meet. To start Saturday off, all four women's shot put throwers Garza,
Claire Urchell (Crown Point, Ind.),
Anna Sielaff (Lincoln, Ill.) and
Gabrielle Harding (Rochelle, Ill.) finished in the top eight. Sielaff also placed for the Cougars in the discus. Along with these ladies,
Angelina Nichols (Chicago, Ill.) won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:23.83.

In the sprints,
Kayla Armstrong (Chicago, Ill.) and
Simone Wilson (Minneapolis, Minn.) brought home two championships each. Armstrong finished with the gold in the 100 and 200-meter dashes while Wilson grabbed wins in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles.

On the men's side, the hurdles was the best event for the Cougars. Maximilian Woywood (Berwyn, Ill.) earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.48 seconds, which is his fastest time this season. In the field events,
Shane Allen (Northlake, Ill.) scored points for CUC in both the hammer and discus. He finished in fourth in the discus with a throw of 36.78 meters while also making a 39.81-meter throw in the hammer to finish in sixth.

The Cougars will continue to compete as they head to a last chance meet at North Central College on Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14.
