The Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team (11-2) played in their final game of the 2021 season today as they headed to Aurora University (10-3) to take on the Spartans. The two teams faced off in the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference finals today, with the winner earning a bid to the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse championships. After 60 minutes of play, it was the Spartans who came out with the bid as the Cougars lost 18-3.
Â
The Spartans came out strong from the start of the game, grabbing an early lead over CUC. Although senior
Elizabeth Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) tried to spark a fire among her teammates with a goal in the first half, it wasn't enough to bring the Cougars back from the deficit they were in.
Â
Elizabeth scored two of the team's three goals during today's contest while sophomore
Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif.) found the back of the net for the Cougars' third and final goal. Many of the players added tremendous pressure to the Spartans' defense by making tactical shots, including
Nina Naes (St. Louis, Mo.) and
Brynn Beetow (Buffalo, N.Y.). In the net, sophomore goalie
Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.) made nine saves for Concordia today.
Â
This was the Cougars last game of the season. They finish the year with a record of 11-2, with their only two losses coming from Aurora.
