Softball Wraps Up Season

On a blustery and sunny day in Chicagoland, the Concordia University Chicago softball team (11-27-1) traveled to Aurora University (33-3) for a Saturday double-header to complete both their weekend series with the Spartans and their season. The home team won both games on the day, victorious 9-2 and 11-1 respectively.

The Cougars' standout performer across the two games was freshman Gina Westphal (Elmhurst, Ill.), who recorded RBI singles in each game. The first brought home senior Nia DeGeorge (Omaha, Neb.) to make it a one-run game at the time. In the second game, Westphal gave the Cougars the lead in the top of the first inning by driving in sophomore Hailey Howard (Machesney Park, Ill.).

DeGeorge was the one other Cougar to record an RBI in the early game, bringing home sophomore Becky Pieroni (Montgomery, Ill.).

Pieroni, who last weekend broke the CUC single-season RBI record, continues to chase the school home run record as well needing just one more to tie.

Junior pitcher Holly Bathje (Davis Junction, Ill.) threw a complete game in the opener, extending her lead in most-innings pitched by a Cougar this season. The CUC ace pitched 120 total innings over the course of the year.

The team greatly appreciates all the support they have received from the Concordia Chicago community this season and can't wait to be back next year.
