In a game full of exciting milestones, the Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse team (2-5) took home the win against Edgewood College (0-4).
Edgewood took an early lead, putting a goal in the net first, but the Cougars replied by putting up three goals from freshman Clayton Emery (Fishers, Ind.) to close out the first quarter. Emery wasn't ready to quiet down yet, as he opened the second quarter with a quick goal, assisted by junior Bransen Bonnell (South Bend, Ind.) who turned around and put one in the net himself, giving the Cougars a 5-1 lead. The second quarter continued to be a big scoring period for the Cougars, seeing additional goals from freshman Noah Gfell (Sylvania, Ohio), junior Chadd Rowe (Atlanta, Ga.), and senior Benjamin Lang (West Dundee, Ill.).
As the second half went underway, four Cougars found themselves with two goals a piece as Gfell, Rowe, Lang, and sophomore Dylan Mordhorst (Centreville, Va.) found the back of the net. Emery added another goal in the third quarter, helping him push to a career high six goals while CUC secured the win 16-7.
On the defensive end, junior Sean Dooley (Ocala, Fla.) saw a career high of 15 won face-offs, while senior goalie Jack Liskey (Crown Point, Ind.) saw his 600th career save as a Cougar. Liskey went 10-17 on the day, contributing to the Cougars' win as well as a huge milestone for the senior captain.
The Cougars look to keep the momentum going into next week as they take on University of Dubuque on Tuesday at home.
