Bathje only allows one hit in 12-0 win over Inferno

The Concordia University Chicago softball team won 12-0 against Alverno University.

The Concordia University Chicago softball team (11-23-1) headed to Milwaukee to take on a non-conference opponent in Alverno College (1-24). The two teams only played one game, but the Cougars ended up on top, winning 12-0.

The first inning is where CUC took control of the game. They scored seven runs in just that one inning, getting a huge advantage over the Inferno. They continued to build on that lead throughout the game. The Cougars scored an additional run in the third inning before registering another four in the fifth and final inning. Alverno did not score any runs, which resulted in a scoreless game for the Inferno.

Junior Holly Bathje (Davis Junction, Ill.) only had one batter from the Inferno roster register a hit against her. She finished the day with six strikeouts after facing 16 batters.

Four Cougars finished the day with two runs, including Sydney Paulauskis-Lauher (Chatham, Ill.), Gina Westphal (Elmhurst, Ill.), Isabel Ortiz (Home Glen, Ill.) and Sydney Sterrett (Lafayette, Ind.). Along with them, another four Cougars also made it home, including Becky Pieroni (Montgomery, Ill.), Nia DeGeorge (Omaha, Neb.), Alexis Hilgert (Naperville, Ill.) and Carole Ross (Whittier, Calif.).

Pieroni earned the most RBIs on the day with four. During this performance, she is now tied with the school record for the most RBIs in a season. She still has two doubleheaders this weekend to break that record.

The Cougars will have two days off before they are back on the field against Aurora University. The doubleheader will start at 12 p.m. on Friday, April 30 in River Forest.
