Men's soccer looks for first win this season against Regents

The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team will play Rockford University.

With their return to Concordia Stadium in sight this weekend, the Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (0-2) will play their final of three away matches to begin their spring season on Wednesday, March 24, against Rockford University (0-2).

Both teams will go for their first win of the year, with the Cougars eyeing their 11th victory all-time against the Regents in 17 meetings. This is a particularly exciting installment of the rivalry, their most recent matchup in October 2019 having been a thriller that the Cougars won in double-overtime.

In this quest for their first win of 2021, the Cougars will look to junior forward Ryan Kuhlman (Darien, Ill.) to again be an offensive spark. His 39th-minute goal against Benedictine last Wednesday was the 10th of his Concordia career and moved him into a tie for ninth all-time in goals for CUC men's soccer.

Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Nicholas Pasut's (New Boston, Mich.) 15 saves are third-best in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference this season after starting both games so far this spring.

The Rockford Regents have yet to score a goal this season and were shutout by both Dominican and Aurora. Nevertheless, the Cougars will be mindful of Regent junior Carlos Montes, who, in addition to being capable of playing anywhere on the pitch, is the Regents' leading returning scorer with six goals last season.

Kickoff versus Rockford is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night under the lights at Wedgbury Stadium in Loves Park, Ill. Fan attendance is limited by Rockford to 200 spectators.
