River Forest, Ill. — The Concordia Chicago men's basketball team (0-5) fell to the Beavers of Buena Vista (5-1) on Sunday afternoon at Geiseman Gymnasium by a final score of 89-74.
The Cougars shot 50 percent from the floor on their way to their highest scoring performance of the season, including a season-high 11 three-pointers. The hot-shooting was not enough to keep up with the Beavers, however, who made nine threes of their own and outscored the Cougars 50-34 in the paint.
Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) continued to provide the offensive spark for CUC, scoring 25 points for the second consecutive game. The junior guard shot 11-19 from the floor and dished out a team-high five assists.
Other notable Cougar performances included senior guard Justin Schwarz (Edwardsville, Ill.), who started in his season debut and scored eight points on 3-5 shooting. He also led the team in rebounds with five. Gabe Elias (Tucson, Ariz.) contributed eight points off the bench, highlighted by the junior shooting 2-2 from deep.
Freshman Emanuel Wislon (Wheaton, Ill.) and junior Izak Ruddell (Saint Joseph, Mich.) both added to the Cougar offense, posting eight points a piece.
The team will be back in action on Wednesday night on the road against Wabash. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be found on the
CUC Athletic's website.
