Cougars Fall In Night One Of Division Street Rivalry

River Forest, Ill. – The Concordia University women's basketball team (2-7) contested their closest battle yet this season in a tight, four-point loss in the Division Street Rivalry at Dominican University on Friday night. The Stars prevailed, 69-65, as they were able to turn around a two-point Concordia lead after the third Quarter.

Concordia stormed out to an 18-8 lead early before the Stars mounted a comeback to lead at the half. The Cougars fought back to overturn a five point halftime deficit by winning the third quarter 18-11, during which they made 6 of their 12 attempted shots and held the Stars to 4-18 shooting.

The Stars three leading scorers were all held below their season averages, but did combine for 43 of their 69 points.

The Cougars were led by strong performances from a group of familiar faces, with sophomore guard quartet Mikalah Ellis (Chicago, Ill.), Tara Hastings (New Lenox, Ill.), Bailey Steinkamp (Cary, Ill.) and Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.) all scoring in double figures.

Steinkamp led the way with 17 points, along with Ellis who posted her second double-double of the season recording 13 points and 11 rebounds. All four players also played over 36 minutes.

The Cougars will finish their regular season schedule tomorrow, again in a Division Street showdown with the Stars, with the game tipping off at 5 p.m.
