Ellis Continues Solid Play in Loss to Eagles

Concordia University Chicago women's basketball (2-6) fell at the hands of the Benedictine Eagles (1-0) tonight by a final score of 60-50.

It was a different story each quarter. The Cougars were effective in holding the Eagles to just four points in the second quarter and they played their 10 best minutes of the night in the fourth, shooting 7-15 from the floor and 2-4 from deep. Despite this, the team was ultimately unable to overcome a -20 point differential in the first and third quarters.

Mikalah Ellis (Chicago, Ill.) was the lone Cougar to score in double-figures on the night. Her 14 points marks the third time in five games that the sophomore eclipsed the 10-point mark. She was aggressive on the boards with seven rebounds, good for second most on the team.

Senior Marie Baumgartner (Addison, Ill.) followed up her career-high 16 points on Saturday night with nine points in 18 minutes of action. Similar to Ellis, Baumgartner was active on the glass and grabbed seven rebounds of her own. The two of them provided a much needed lift from the CUC bench.

Other contributions came from sophomore Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.), who dished out a team-high five assists. Fellow sophomore Bailey Steinkamp (Cary, Ill.) grabbed eight boards, the most in the game.

The Cougars will be back in action this weekend for their final two games of the regular season. They head down the road to Dominican for the games on Friday and Saturday, which will tip at 5 p.m. both days. A stream to the game will be available on the Dominican Athletic's website.
