River Forest, Ill. — Concordia Chicago women's basketball (2 - 5) lost a heartbreaker Saturday evening at the hands of conference foe Aurora (5-0) in overtime by a final score of 81-76.
The Cougars trailed by 12 with six minutes to play, but stormed back to force overtime as freshman forward Makenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) made a buzzer beater at the end of regulation. However, Aurora sealed the overtime victory with a clutch three-pointer as the shot clock expired in the final minute.
Five different Cougars scored in double-figures, led by sophomore guard
Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.) with 18 points and senior guard
Marie Baumgartner (Addison, Ill.) with 16. Baumgartner shot an impressive 6-9 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds, while Wade added to her already impressive weekend after scoring a career-high 23 on Friday night.
Straulin not only hit the biggest shot of the night for the Cougars, but was also the team's third-leading scorer with a career-high 12 points. Sophomores
Tara Hastings (New Lenox, Ill.) and
Bailey Steinkamp (Cary, Ill.) rounded out double-figure scorers to continue their impressive seasons on the offensive end.
The Cougars kick off the final week of the regular season with a trip to Benedictine on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. and a stream to the game can be found on the
