Sophomores lead offense for Cougars in loss to Spartans

The Concordia University Chicago women's basketball team lost 66-90 to Aurora Spartans.

River Forest, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago women's basketball team (2-4) hit the road this weekend to take on the Aurora University Spartans (4-0) in a two-day double header against the NACC opponent. After keeping the score close throughout the first half of competition, the Cougars dropped the contest 66-90.

Concordia didn't let the Spartans gain a huge lead during the first 10 minutes of the game as Aurora only led by 11 at any point in the quarter. It wasn't until the second quarter where they began to get away from the Cougars as the Spartans had a 15-point lead heading into the half.

Once the two teams came back on the court for the third, the Spartans pulled away. Concordia was unable to keep up with Aurora's offense, ultimately resulting in the 66-90 loss.

Leading the Cougars tonight was sophomore Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.). As the only player to register all 40 minutes on the court, she ended the night with 23 points, going 3-6 from the arc while shooting 100 percent (6-6) from the charity line.

Sophomore Tara Hastings (New Lenox, Ill) contributed all around for the Cougars tonight. She finished second on the team for points with 17 while also recording team-highs in assists (3) and steals (2). On defense, sophomore Chloe Schaafsma (Lockport, Ill.) led the team with five rebounds and freshman Lauren Saleh (River Forest, Ill.) had a team-high two blocks.

The Cougars will be back at Aurora tomorrow night for their second game of this weekend's double header. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. A link to the livestream can be found on Aurora's website.
