Cougars win on McCloud's Senior Day

The Concordia University Chicago women's basketball team won 59-50 over the Rockford University Regents.

River Forest, Ill. — For the second time in as many nights, Concordia Chicago women's basketball (2-3) emerged victorious over the Rockford Regents (0-4) by a final score of 59-50.

In an intense back-and-forth battle, CUC entered the fourth quarter trailing by five points. That's when the Cougars kicked the offense into hyperdrive, shooting 8-14 from the floor and out-scoring the Regents 21-7. The massive fourth quarter was highlighted by a 17-point run that spanned over five and a half minutes.

The Cougars starters came to play tonight, scoring 54 of the team's 59 points, with sophomore guard Tara Hastings (New Lenox, Ill.) leading all scorers with 21. Hastings was on fire, lighting it up shooting 5-10 from deep and dishing out four assists.

Sophomore Mikalah Ellis (Chicago, Ill.) recorded the Cougars' second double-double in as many nights, with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Bailey Steinkamp had another nice night, scoring 13 points and grabbing six rebounds.

Continuing the pattern of sophomore dominance, Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.) led all players with 13 rebounds to go along with her seven points.

Concordia Chicago secured this win on Senior Day, where they celebrated their sole senior, Kayla McCloud. The women's basketball team and the entire athletics department thanks Kayla for the years of hard work and dedication she gave to the Cougars.

CUC will search for their third straight win on Tuesday night when they travel to Benedictine. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and a link to the stream can be found on the Benedictine website.
