River Forest, Ill. -- The Concordia University Chicago team wrapped up their 2021 campaign on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13, by welcoming conference newcomer St. Norbert College to Concordia Stadium for their first-ever matchup with the Green Knights. The Cougars were unable to generate much momentum in the game, falling 34-0.
Prior to kick-off, the Cougars honored their ten seniors: offensive lineman David Cherry (Wyoming, Mich.), linebacker Tyler Dudley (Katy, Texas), quarterback Jordan Sepulveda (Lake Worth, Fla.), linebacker Zach Cicero (Chicago, Ill.), defensive back Adam Hernandez (Houston, Texas), offensive lineman Reece Prokop (Smithville, Texas), defensive back Earl MacIntyre (Smithville, Texas), defensive end Kolson Ethan Pua (South San Francisco, Calif.), defensive back Julian Sierras (Huntington Beach, Calif.), and defensive lineman Jeremiah Glenn (Austin, Texas).
Top Cougars
-
Freshman quarterback Finn Allers (Atlanta, Ga.) saw reps for the second-straight week, completing 7-15 attempts for 63 yards. He added 31 more yards on the ground.
-
Senior running back DeAndre Daniels (Chula Vista, Calif.) led all rushers with 95 yards.
-
Junior wide receiver Christian Covington (Corinth, Texas) caught six passes for 90 yards, including a 36-yard reception.
-
Freshman linebacker Travon Thomas (Wauchula, Fla.) led all tacklers with seven.
-
Seniors MacIntyre and Glenn both added five of their own, as well as junior Julian Ramirez (Zion, Ill.)
With his 95 yards, Daniels officially put a cap on a historic season. The senior transfer eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the Cougars on the ground this season, doing so in just eight games. His 138.8 yards per game rank second in the conference on the year.
Trailing 14-0 nearing the half, the Cougars found themselves in the red zone with a chance to pull within one score before the break. A 90-yard interception return for a touchdown negated this opportunity, however, and the team entered the locker room trailing 20-0.
The Cougars had more positive drives in the second half, controlling time of possession for the entirety of the game (the Cougars held possession for 42 minutes and 19 seconds compared to 17:41 for the Green Knights). They couldn't quite get over the hump despite the scoring chances, but they were able to rack up a good amount of total offense.
