CUC Routs Hollins, Preserves 5-0 Record

ROANOKE, Va. -- Hoping to keep their win streak alive while traveling to Hollins University for a spring break match up, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars looked to take down the Green on their own turf this afternoon. CUC did just that too, as the Cougars' offense once again exploded into a dominant 18-2 winning performance.

Inside the Box Score:
  • Nine different Cougars appeared in the scoring column today, as freshmen Nina Naes and Rylee Orenstein led the charge with four goals apiece. Naes also dished one assist.
  • Bailey Steinkamp recorded her second hat trick of the season, while also picking up three ground balls and four draw controls.
  • Sophomore Emily Cyrwus had two goals, six draw controls and a caused turnover.
  • Netminder Ryan McGee stopped five shots, matching her career high, and picked up her fifth career win.
How it Happened:
  • Elizabeth Cyrwus got today's offense started, scoring a goal less than two minutes into the action, followed shortly thereafter by Orenstein's first of the day. Less than five minutes in, CUC had established a comfortable 2-0 lead.
  • From there, the Green answered back and scored two straight goals of their own to tie things up at 2-2.
  • That would be the last of the Green though, as Concordia scored eight goals over the final 20 minutes of the half, including two-man up goals.
  • Brynn Beetow closed out the first with her lone goal of the day that established CUC's dominant 10-2 lead.
  • As the second frame began, Emily Cyrwus found the back of the net with 28:29 on the clock. Naes then exchanged goals with Grace Miller and Michelle Ruan before the Cougars were looking at a 15-2 lead with 15 minutes still left to play.
  • Over the final quarter of the match, the Cougars tacked on three more goals from Madison Perkins, Steinkamp and Naes and solidified their fifth win of the season, at an 18-2 advantage.
Up Next:
  • The Cougars will return to play this Sunday, March 15 and take on Beloit College in an MWLC match up. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
