Cougars Compete in Day Two

Box Score Sauget, Ill.- Concordia University Chicago (0-2) spent the second day of their road trip to face off against North Park University (1-2), and Webster University (2-2). CUC opened up yesterday versus UW-Oshkosh and despite an early lead, could not close out the opening game. The Cougars first chance at redemption would come against North Park. CUC would not get it in game one, struggling to muster up hits (4).

(G1: NP) Turning Point: In the second inning NP was the first to score. They would never lose the lead again for the rest of the game and win 6-2.

(G1: NP) Inside the Box Score:
  • CUC lost the hit battle 14-4
  • The Cougars capitalized off of two of the three North Park errors, scoring their only two runs.
  • Freshman Chandler Kerr made his collegiate debut, he registered 2.0 IP, 2K, and only allowed one hit.
  • Howie Hatton (1-1) doubled in his second pinch hit opportunity. He now is 3-3 with three doubles on the season
(G1: NP) Quick Recap:
  • North Park would be first to score a run, and they would do so in the second and third innings.
  • CUC responded by scoring off of a Vikings infielder error, scoring Mateo Calle.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, NP answered with four runs, with three of them coming off of a bases clearing double with two outs.
  • The Cougars put some runners on base in the ninth but would only score one run and fall 6-2.

Concordia-Chicago would now look towards Webster University to earn their first win of the season. An early Gorlock homerun gave Webster early momentum, but CUC would bounce back to tie it up.

(G2: WU) Turning Point:
  • Both teams played evenly for the most part, no huge turning point due to the rain delay.
(G2: WU) Inside the Box Score:
  • Both teams' stats are nearly identical. Hits (4-4) Errors (1-1) and Left on Base (4-5)
  • Gerry Maynard (2-4) let the offense with 2 hits.
  • Brody Mariotti and Hatton would be the only other two to record hits.
  • Adam Gregory pitched a gem, facing 25 hitters, and only allowing four hits.
(G2: WU) Quick Recap
  • With Gregory (7.0 IP, 77 P, 6 SO, and 1 ER) on the mound, Concordia-Chicago swiftly took care of batter for the first two innings.
  • In the third, Webster sent a solo shot out to right-centerfield. This would go as the only blemish on Gregory's slate.
  • The Cougars would answer back in the next inning. Mariotti lined a single up the middle, which led to a Webster error, and a Hatton run.
  • Moving forward to the 8th inning, rain started coming down. Fortunately for CUC, this brought struggles to the Webster pitcher.
  • Although the Cougars had runners on first and third, they could not score and were forced to hit the field.
  • Cade Laudenschlag would relieve Gregory in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Laudenschlag would hold the Worlocks to no runs but the rain had other plans on the game.
  • The ending of the game would be postponed and scheduled to be finished next week in Florida with the score 1-1 in the 10th inning.
Up Next: Concordia-Chicago will travel to Florida and face off against Wheaton College (Mass.) on March 7that 1:30 p.m. (est)
