Amos Scores 25, But Cougars Fall to WLC

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Looking to pick up their first road win since January 11, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars traveled north to Wisconsin Lutheran College this afternoon, hoping to complete the season sweep over the Warriors. After an early tight game, WLC went on to rout the Cougars 77-68 in the end.

Turning Point:
  • While CUC committed 13 turnovers this afternoon, the Warriors capitalized on each opportunity, as WLC converted 22 points off of the Cougars' turnovers. For Concordia, just seven points were scored in conjunction with WLC turnovers.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Landen Gladney was one rebound shy of a double-double, as the sophomore picked up 12 points and nine rebounds.
  • Raushaun Amos hit seven three-pointers, en route to a 25-point performance. His scoring efforts have set a new-career high for their St. Louis natives.
  • Izak Ruddell had the second-highest scoring performance for CUC, as he picked up 13 points to go with five rebounds and two assists.
  • The Cougars out scored WLC 28-26 off points in the paint.
  • WLC held the advantage in bench production, as the Warriors saw 22 points produced from its bench, while the Cougars had 11.
  • From beyond the arc, CUC out shot WLC with 10 made-three's as opposed to nine for the Warriors.
Quick Recap:
  • WLC was the first to get on the board this afternoon, as the Warriors drained a three-pointer soon after opening tip.
  • Ready to go to war though, the Cougars responded back with a pull up jumper from Amos.
  • With 17:59 on the clock, Ruddell attempted a three-pointer, but was fouled on his way up. The sophomore drained two of the three chances from the charity stripe and pulled the Cougars within one, down 5-4.
  • Five minutes in, Gladney took matters into his own hands and drove from the top of the key down the lane and kissed a layup off the glass to cut CUC's, then, deficit down to three points.
  • After a missed layup from the Warriors, Ruddell grabbed the defensive board and found Xeo Golding in the paint. From there, Golding found Amos, who was able to knock down the three-pointer to make things a 11-9 game.
  • With 11 minutes remaining, Gladney once again kept things a two point game, as he sank another driving layup. However, from that mark, the Warriors went on a 11-0 run that established a 24-11 point lead.
  • After this deficit, the Cougars would never pull back within six points of WLC for the remainder of the game.
  • After the first half of play, Wisconsin Lutheran had out shot CUC, 37.5 to 29.4 percent from the field.
  • The Warriors would lead by as many as 15 points throughout the second half, although their lead was threatened by the Cougars on several occasions.
  • As 14:54 remained, Brent Hatten knocked down a three, to make it a 46-39 game, but WLC answered back with another seven-point tear.
  • Despite trailing, CUC continued to battle both the Warriors and the clock. Down by 15, with 3:47 to go, Ruddell and Amos combined for back-to-back three's and pulled the Cougars back within seven points.
  • Although Concordia-Chicago continued to fight to the end, WLC's offensive runs proved to be too much for the Cougars to come back from.
Up Next:
  • With four regular season games left to go, Concordia-Chicago will pick back up on Wednesday, Feb. 12, hosting Rockford University inside Geiseman Gymnasium. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and will kick off CUC's three-game homestand.
