Eagles Hold Off Cougars

River Forest, Ill.- Concordia University Chicago (8-15; 7-11) took on Benedictine University (21-2; 18-0) in their last home game of the 2019-2020 season. CUC looked to give the Eagles their first conference loss of the season. 
 
Turning Point- Although Benedictine started off hot, the Cougars pulled back within six. From there they would fall behind 14 with 5:11 left in the second quarter and be forced to take a timeout. 
 
Inside the Box Score-
  • Crystal Corr led the way with 22 points and four rebounds.
  • The Cougars were outrebounded 50-28
  • CUC managed to turn over the Eagles 23 times.
  • Concordia-Chicago also got a hefty bench contribution, tallying 45 points.
Quick Recap-
  • A 10-2 run opened up the first quarter for Benedictine University.
  • Concordia-Chicago fought back, and a Crystal Corr jumper would shrink the lead to 18-11.
  • Out of the second quarter, Corr made a layup to cut the deficit to 19-13.
  • Another 10-2 run would force the Cougars into a timeout, trailing 29-15 with 5:11 left in the quarter.
  • Following the timeout, BenU would push the lead even further to 36-19.
  • Bailey Steinkamp would end the run after a steal lead into a coast-to-coast layup.
  • Benedictine held off a big run and went into halftime with a 43-21 run.
  • Concordia-Chicago could not answer quick enough In the second half. BenU pushed the lead out to 30 with 5:00 remaining in the third quarter. 
  • As the clock expired, Tara Hastings sunk in a three to cut the lead to 64-41.
  • The Cougars climbed even closer, and after two Jaylene Wade free throws saw the deficit sit at 68-50.
  • Near the end of regulation, CUC turned up the heat defensively, and went on a run that shrunk the lead even smaller to 76-66.
  • A valiant comeback would not be completed and the Cougars would fall 78-66.
 
Up Next- Concordia-Chicago will travel to take on Aurora University on Saturday, February 22nd, in their last game of the season. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
