CUC Drops Senior Day Contest to Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Hoping to pick up their eighth win of the year, and sixth at home, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars welcomed rival Dominican University to Geiseman Gymnasium this afternoon. With the contest doubling as CUC's senior day, the Cougars held the game's momentum for the majority of the day, before the Stars eventually escaped with the 70-67 victory.

Turning Point:
  • For the third straight game, CUC has shot under 60 percent from the charity stripe, shooting 7-of-14 from the free throw line today. Comparatively, Dominican University missed just two of their 14 free throws.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Raushaun Amos and Xeo Golding led the way, each putting up 17 points and two assists. Amos hit five three pointers, while Golding grabbed three rebounds.
  • Senior Charlie Reznikoff had a highly productive day, shooting 5-of-7 from the field, good for 11 points and four rebounds in 11 minutes of work.
  • Neil O'Donnell had a complete performance, as the Illinois native grabbed six rebounds, dished three assists and picked up four steals.
  • The Cougars and Stars each made 25 field goals throughout the game, while CUC drained 10 three's and the Stars made eight from beyond the arc.
  • CUC had just 12 turnovers tonight, marking the second-lowest turnovers in a single game for the Cougars this season.
Quick Recap:
  • From the jump, Concordia-Chicago and Dominican would make it a tight game, though the Cougars would strike first as rookie Brent Hatten nailed a three from the near-side corner, just one minute into the contest.
  • Less than a minute later, Amos would hit his first three of the day, off a transition, step-back jumper. A few seconds later, he hit yet another deep basket, giving CUC an early 9-5 lead.
  • With 16:30 on the clock, Hatten hit another three-pointer, making it a 12-5 game, and marking all four of CUC's first baskets of the day coming from beyond the arc.
  • Under the 15-minute mark in the first, O'Donnell drained a turnaround jumper and extended Concordia's lead to 16-9.
  • From there, Dominican began to march back, as the Stars rattled off a 7-2 run, leaving the Cougars with a 18-16 lead with just 9:30 to go in the half.
  • Despite the pressure from the Stars, Amos hit another transition three-pointer, and pulled CUC ahead to a 21-16 point game.
  • The Stars began to heat up, and took their first lead of the day with six minutes remaining in the frame. Creating a five-point deficit for the Cougars, Dominican eventually went up 32-31 to close out the half.
  • Concordia did not miss an attempted field goal for the first four minutes of the second half, and pulled ahead by as many as nine points, leading 43-34, thanks to the offensive surg.e
  • However, the Stars began to chip away as they had made it a five-point game with 13 minutes left to go in regulation.
  • Despite the Cougars holding a steady lead throughout the half, and managing the game's momentum, Dominican tied up the game at the 10-minute mark, at 54-54.
  • Golding answered back to the tie score with a three-pointer from the top of the key and allowed the Cougars to take a 57-54 lead.
  • Over the final seven minutes of play, the Stars out-scored CUC, 14-5 to run off with the 70-67 win.
