Big Second Quarter Leads CUC Past MSOE

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After downing Marian on Thursday, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team took to the floor again today against the MSOE Raiders, looking to make it two straight wins. Behind a great all-around first half, the Cougars would pick up a big NACC win by a final score of 59-47.
 
TURNING POINT
  • The Cougars held MSOE scoreless for over 10 minutes of play between the late first and second quarter. CUC would go on to outscore MSOE 20-5 in the second quarter to take a 35-14 lead into the half.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Charisma Robinson had a good all-around night, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists.
  • Michaela Thornton was able to get to the rim a lot, scoring 12 points on 5-8 shooting with four rebounds.
  • CUC out-rebounded MSOE 46-34.
  • 13 different players scored for CUC on the night.
 
QUICK RECAP
  • Robinson scored the opening basket for CUC and the Cougars never looked back.
  • CUC opened the game on a 13-2 run which was capped by a Crystal Corr layup.
  • MSOE worked their way back within four, but Tara Hastings converted a steal into a layup to make it a 15-9 lead after one.
  • Robinson reached double-figure scoring early in the second quarter as the CUC lead ballooned to over 20.
  • The Raiders scored their first points of the quarter on a layup with 2:51 remaining in the quarter.
  • CUC led 35-14 at the half.
  • MSOE outscored CUC in the third quarter but the Cougars still led 51-36 after three.
  • Coach Lauren Martin was able to fully use her bench as the Cougars cruised to a 59-47 win.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Cougars (7-13, 6-9 NACC) will have a week off before they resume NACC play. They will head to Milwaukee to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College (14-4, 12-2 NACC) on February 8. Opening tip is set for 3:15pm.
