Cougar Women Fall To Aurora

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Returning to Geiseman Gymnasium for just the second time this season, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team took on the Aurora University Spartans tonight. In a closely fought game that featured seven ties and 12 lead changes, it would be the Spartans who were able to convert from the free-throw line late to down the Cougars 75-71.
 
TURNING POINT
  • With CUC trailing 64-62 with 5:39 remaining in the fourth, Aurora went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to extend their lead to double-digits.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • For the second straight game and the third time this season Tara Hastings finished with 20+ points. The freshman finished with 23 points on 9-14 shooting and seven rebounds.
  • Jaylene Wade had a big night from deep. She had 12 points on 4-5 shooting from downtown.
  • As a team CUC shot 41.2 percent from the field and 9-31 from three.
  • Julie Galauner lead Aurora with 24 points on 7-16 shooting including a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe.
  • Aurora shot 49.1 percent from the field and 5-12 from three while going 18-19 from the free-throw line.

  • Aurora grabbed a quick six point lead early, scoring the first two baskets and two free-throws of the game.
  • The Cougars used their defense to fight back, taking their first lead at 15-12 with 2:14 remaining in the first quarter on a Hastings three.
  • Aurora chipped away to begin the second quarter, but Michaela Thornton kept them chasing by turning a turnover into a layup.
  • The Spartans answered with a 7-0 run to take a 27-22 lead with 5:18 remaining in the quarter.

  • CUC cut the lead to two with under a minute, but were unable to convert two shots from the free throw line with five seconds remaining.
