Cougar Comeback Comes Up Short Against CNU

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD.  – After picking up the first win of the new decade for Concordia University Chicago, the women's basketball team took to the floor today looking to make it two in a row. They would battle the Captains of Christopher Newport University for just the second time in program history. CUC battled tough, cutting a 19point deficit down to just two in the fourth quarter. The comeback would come up short by a final score of 87-76.
 
Turning Point
  • The Cougars pulled back within three on a Sarah Ludwig layup with 3:59 remaining in the second quarter. The Captains then went on a 16-2 run to take a 49-32 lead into the half. CUC nearly completed a comeback in the second half, getting back within two in the fourth, but the Captains outscored CUC by nine the rest of the way.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Bailey Steinkamp had a season high 26 points on 9-11 shooting. She also knocked down six threes, which is the most in a game since Taylor Jacobsen knocked down six against MSOE on January 14, 2017.
  • Tara Hastings had her second 20+ point game of the season, finishing with 22 points on 7-15 shooting. She also had a team high six rebounds and three steals.
  • In total nine different players scored for CUC.
  • As a team CUC shot 43.9 percent from the floor and 8-18 from three.
