Cougars Get Revenge On Sabres

River Forest, Ill.- Concordia University Chicago (6-13; 5-9 NACC) played host to Marian University (3-15; 3-11 NACC) in the teams' second matchup of the season. In the previous game Marian would come out on top with a 71-63 victory. CUC would get their revenge and win 78-51.
 
Turning Point: 
  • From the very beginning the Cougars were on their A-game. An Annika Rae three to start the game would give CUC their first and only lead they would need all game. 
 
Inside the Box Score: 
  • Charisma Robinson played an all-around game with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
  • Rae paced the Cougars with a career high 17 points, and 4 rebounds. 
  • Crystal Corr came back to form with a 10 point effort in 12 minutes of play.
  • CUC held the Sabres to 30.9% shooting.
  • Concordia-Chicago played with the lead for 38:53 of the game which equated to 97.2%.
  • The Cougars also moved the ball around impressively with 18 assists and 31 points off of the bench. 
 
Quick Recap: 
  • The Cougars started the scoring within the first couple minutes with an Annika Rae three.
  • Bailey Steinkamp would go on to score the next four points for CUC off of two straight driving layups.
  • In the rest of the first quarter Concordia-Chicago kept up the onslaught, and thanks to a 18-4 run, they saw themselves leading 21-7.
  • Opening up the second quarter, Marian found a rhythm down low. The Sabres would score six straight points off of shots around the rim and they cut the deficit to 23-13. 
  • A Tara Hastings' three pointer would stop the run and keep the Cougars rolling.
  • Running in transition, Crystal Corr would add two layups assisted by Madelyn McGrath and Sarah Ludwig.
  • Marian regained some composure and went on another short run (9-2) to close the score to 36-26. 
  • Once again Concordia-Chicago would answer with a run of their own. A Rae three, and a Steinkamp layup gave the Cougars a 41-26 advantage at the halftime break.
  • CUC kept their offense firing throughout the third quarter and outscored the Sabres 22-15. 
  • An 8-0 run broke open the game for good in the fourth quarter. The run was capped off by a Hastings layup to extend the lead to 30 points (71-41). 
  • From there, it would be all Cougars and they would come away with a 78-51 victory.

  • Concordia-Chicago will take on Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, February 1st at 4:15 p.m.
