Cougars Control Late, Drown Muskies

River Forest, Ill. – Concordia University Chicago (3-10; 2-7 NACC) played host to Lakeland University (6-8; 6-3 NACC). The Cougars would look to break their four-game losing streak against a tough Muskies squad. CUC would fall behind after the first half, but then come firing back and hold the lead late in the game for a 66-58 win.

TURNING POINT
  • With 9:27 left in regulation, Tara Hastings drained a three that would give the Cougars their final lead of the game and propel them to victory despite a late rally by Lakeland. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hastings paced the CUC attack with 19 points, followed by Annika Rae (13).
  • Rae would go on to score 10 of her 13 points in the final frame.
  • Meghan Long led the way on the boards again with a seven rebound performance.
  • Charisma Robinson was a jack of all trades. She recorded five points, five rebounds, and seven steals.
  • Concordia-Chicago held the Muskies to a measly 4-23 from three.
  • There were nine lead changes and both teams played with a lead for a little over 18 minutes. 

QUICK RECAP
  • In early action, CUC came out slow, and would trail 12-4 before a Hastings three pointer would shrink the lead with 3:54 left in the first. 
  • Consecutive scores by Hastings and Crystal Corr would set up a Jaylene Wade three and give the Cougars their first lead of the game going into the second quarter. 
  • Lakeland jumped out to a hot start in the second portion of play, taking a small advantage throughout. 
  • The Muskies would drain a three with four seconds left to push their lead to 36-29 at the halftime break
  • Following halftime, Bailey Steinkamp would spark the Cougar offense with a deep three to pull CUC within four.
  • Annika Rae added a three of her own to regain the lead for Concordia-Chicago at 40-38 with 5:48 left in the third quarter. 
  • With 29 seconds left, Lakeland snatched back the lead with a layup and went into the final frame up 47-46.
  • CUC would once again open the quarter with a big three pointer, this time it came from Hastings and it would once again flip the lead into Cougar control. 
  • From there, Concordia-Chicago would not give up the lead again and win 66-58.

  • Concordia Chicago will face off against Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday, January 18th. Game time is set for 4:15 p.m.
