RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After a midweek match up against Elmhurst on Wednesday, the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team (1-2) will look to get back in the win column on Sunday against the Carroll University Pioneers.

Pioneer Press... For the first time in program history, the Cougars will be taking on the Pioneers this weekend. Members of the CCIW conference, Carroll University is 2-2 thus far on the year. With wins over Coe and Beloit colleges, the Pioneers also suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of CUC's NACC rival Concordia Wisconsin. Scoring nine goals already, the Pioneers are led by Shea Connell who has four goals of his own. In goal, Heath Anderson and Pete Villafuerte have shared time, combining for a .588 save percentage.
Cougar Tape... The Cougars head into the 2019 season looking to improve upon a 3-12 record from just a season ago. At 1-2 through the first three games, CUC returns 58 percent of their 2018 total goal scoring in sophomore
Ryan Kuhlman. Junior
Gerardo Medina also returns for the Cougars, as he tabbed three goals and two assists last year, finishing second on the team in total points with eight. The now veteran Cougar already has three points on the season including the second goal in CUC's 4-0 win over Moody Bible.
Welcome to the Show... CUC's roster holds a host of new faces, as 20 new Cougars join the 2019 squad. With one junior, two sophomores and 17 freshmen added to the team, Concordia-Chicago will have a very young roster despite having a veteran back line. Already on the year, three of CUC's four offensive producers have come from newbies
John Walsh,
Dominick Christiansen and
Michael Bogart. In his collegiate debut, Walsh had an impressive one goal, two assists outing.
Inside the Posts... Senior
Jose Retana has led CUC's netminder group this season. Collecting the win against Moody Bible, Retana already has 21 saves and 38 shots faced on the season, with a .778 save percentage.
