CUC Clipped By Eagles

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- In the second all-time meeting between Concordia-Chicago and Northwestern men's lacrosse teams, the Eagles came out on top, scoring early and often to cruise to a 18-5 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Cougars were out shot 38-10 in shots on goal today.
  • Mateo Saputo led the way for CUC, scoring three goals.
  • Tate Macfarlane had a strong day running the Cougar offense, finishing with four points off one goal and three assists.
Northwestern jumped out of the gate, scoring three unanswered goals before Macfarlane could score on an extra-man opportunity.

Despite cutting their deficit down to two, the Cougars would not be able to tack on another goal for the remainder of the first half as the Eagles had a 6-1 lead heading into the halftime break.

Opening up the third quarter, the Eagles went on another seven-goal tear to pull away with a commanding 13-1 lead.

With three minutes to go in the third, CUC's offense finally came to life as Saputo netted the ball off a pass from Macfarlane. Before the quarter would end, Hunter Combe scored CUC's third of the day, allowing the Cougars to hang on 14-3 going into the final frame of play.

In the last quarter, Saputo scored back-to-back goals, but it would ultimately be no match for Northwestern's offense as the Eagles won the MLC match up, 18-5.

CUC returns to action on Wednesday, April 10 at Monmouth College.
