MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Taking on Monmouth College, the Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team held a lead during the majority of the first half, but a scoreless second half allowed the Scots to secure a 7-4 MLC victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Scots out shot the Cougars 45-22 and shut out CUC in the second half.
- Despite the loss, Jack Liskey was solid in net, stopping 14 shots and finishing with a .667 save percentage.
- The Cougars had five extra-man opportunities but struggled to capitalize on any.
Concordia-Chicago got going early, as
Tate Macfarlane drove down the field to score CUC's first goal of the day, at the 12:26 mark.
Less than three minutes later, the Cougars took a solid 2-0 lead thanks to
Brett Krueger sneaking a goal past Monmouth's netminder.
With under nine minutes to go in the quarter, the Fighting Scots tallied two quick goals to even up the game heading into the second.
Boston Dumas started off the second frame in incredible fashion, as the freshman won the first face off and sliced several Monmouth defenders to score the third goal of the night.
With a 3-2 lead, the Cougars kept working in their offensive zone. Eventually, sophomore
Hunter Combe took a high shot that Macfarlane picked up and was able to convert into an unassisted goal.
As CUC had expanded its lead by two, the Scots' offense came alive and scored three-straight goals to take its first lead of the night and close out the first half with a 5-4 advantage.
Monmouth held onto its momentum in the second half, as they iced the Cougars in quarter three, but added two more goals to their side of the scoreboard.
Down 7-4 with just 15 minutes left to play, Concordia-Chicago kicked off the fourth quarter on an extra-man opportunity but struggled to capitalize.
While neither the Scots nor the Cougars were able to score in the fourth quarter, Monmouth's three-goal lead held up to take the 7-4 victory.
CUC will return to action on the road this weekend to take on Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon.
