RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After falling behind early, Concordia-Chicago ignited a spark in the first half, but the Kalamazoo Hornets surged past CUC to spoil the home opener, 16-9.
Inside the Box Score:
- Trailing 3-0 after one period of play, the Cougars fought back with five consecutive goals in the second half.
- Kalamazoo outshot CUC 54-28 throughout the contest and capitalized on 4-5 man-up opportunities.
- Jack Liskey wooed the crowd with a full length of the field goal.
- Boston Dumas lead the attack with three goals, an assist and 10 groundballs. The freshman also went 11-20 from the face off circle.
The Hornets opened up in an explosive fashion, as they tacked on three early, unanswered goals. Down 3-0, the Cougars fired right back with three of their own to tie the game up.
The CUC scoring surge wouldn't stop there however, as Concordia-Chicago fired in two more goals to complete a 5-0 scoring run. The Hornets closed out the half with a five-goal tear of their own and built an 8-5 lead heading into the halftime break.
At the start of the third quarter,
Brett Krueger dodged inside the lane and netted the ball off a clean pass from
Benjamin Lang to help pull the Cougars within two.
With eight more Kalamazoo goals over the final half of play, the Hornets capitalized on a key man-up opportunities and ultimately ran away with the 16-8 victory.
The Cougars look to get back into a flow at Aurora on Wednesday March 13
at 5 p.m. This will kick off MLC action for CUC.
