Cougars Withstand Warriors in OT Classic

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia-Chicago men's basketball team finally came home for its home opener this afternoon, looking to blemish the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors' undefeated NACC record. With sharp shooting and a gritty effort, the Cougars came out on top with a 116-113 overtime victory.

Turning Point:
  • With eight seconds to go in regulation, the Cougars trailed WLC 100-97. Thanks to an inbound pass from Brent Hatten, senior Raushaun Amos had an isolated shot and nailed the long three-pointer to electrify Geiseman Gymnasium, tie up the game and force things into overtime.
Inside the Box Score:
  • With tonight's victory, the Cougars have set a new program record for most points scored in a single game. The record was last set in February of 1994, when CUC scored 115 points to defeat Rockford University.
  • Tonight's game was Head Coach Steve Kollar's debut in Geiseman Gymnasium and the first home victory in his tenure.
  • Jalen Meeks and Landen Gladney continue their now six-game streak of scoring in double-digits, as the two recorded 30 and 21 points, respectively. The duo also each tallied a double-double, as Meeks had 10 boards and Gladney grabbed 12. Tonight was Gladney's second straight double-double and the 23rd of his career.
  • Charlie Reznikoff, Xeo Golding and Raushaun Amos were all critical in tonight's victory, as all three reached double-figures in scoring. Reznikoff (15), Golding (15), and Amos (18) all set new career-highs.
  • Meeks drew a game-high seven fouls and earned himself three different and-one opportunities throughout the contest.
  • In the overtime frame, CUC went 11-of-17 from the charity stripe to pull away with the win.
Quick Summary:
  • Wisconsin Lutheran led for nearly 32 of the game's 45 minutes, including a four-point lead heading into the second half.
  • No team led by more than nine points throughout the contest.
  • CUC held the Warriors scoreless for two minutes to open up the second half, and were able to settle the score thanks to back-to-back layups from Meeks and Gladney.
  • With 12 to go in regulation, Golding drained a three followed by a Meeks' steal and fast-break layup to shift the momentum of the game and give the Cougars a 72-71 lead.
  • WLC threatened to close out the game with a nine-point lead, before the Cougars were able to rattle off an 18-10 run in the final five minutes and force overtime.
  • All seven of Gladney's free throws came in the overtime period, as he went 7-of-7 and helped the Cougars secure the monumental victory.
Up Next:
  • As the Cougars improve to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in NACC play, they will return to the floor on Monday, Dec. 16 to take on Benedictine University. Tip off is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time, inside Geiseman Gymnasium.
