Eagles Fly Past Cougars

Lisle, Ill.- Concordia University Chicago (1-6; 1-4 NACC) traveled to take on Benedictine University (6-1; 4-0 NACC) in their last game of 2019. The Cougars would battle early but fall behind late and drop their sixth straight game by a score of 76-56. 
 
Turning Point 
Concordia-Chicago would fall behind early and find themselves playing catch-up. After a strong run to end the second quarter they were only trailing by five. Coming out of the second half after an Allison Michalski layup, the Eagles did not look back and never let the lead get lower than five. 
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Despite losing by a total of 20 points, CUC won the second quarter of play (21-18) and showed some bright spots defensively. 
  • Charisma Robinson (8) led the rebounding brigade again, followed closely by Michaela Thornton (7)
  • Tara Hastings paced Concordia-Chicago offensively with 18 points on the night. She would be the only Cougar to score double digits. 
  • CUC shot a below average 24.7% from the field.
  • Along with shooting poorly, the Cougars did not get much second chance opportunites. They would surrender 38 defensive rebounds opposed to their 26. 
  • CUC got on the glass offensively however and had 21 as a team.

  • Concordia-Chicago would take the first lead of the game off of a Thornton layup
  • They would extend the lead after a Kaylah Koehler offensive board and layup made it 4-0.
  • This would be their largest lead, and soon would fall behind 17-9 at the end of the first quarter.

  • Two Thornton layups and a Marie Baumgartner three pointer pulled them back within double digits.

  • Coming out of halftime the Eagles striked first, and they did not let the lead get back within five for the rest of the game. 
  • BenU would end the third quarter up 12, and then push their lead to as far as 22 on their way to a 76-56 victory.

Concordia-Chicago will face off against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Friday, January 3rd. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. eastern time.
