PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- Picking up their fourth win of a season for the first time since 2015, the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team defeated the Lakeland Muskies by way of 2-1 this afternoon.
The Cougar offense came out solid right away, rifling off nine first half shots and forcing the Muskies' netminder Aaron Smith to prove his range in goal.
Rookie
German Tinoco got the Cougars on the board finally, when he converted a shot on goal into the back of the net for CUC's first goal of the afternoon. With his score, Tinoco recorded the first goal and points of his collegiate career.
The freshman's goal withstood the rest of the first half, as CUC was able to head into the break leading 1-0.
Jose Retana stopped one of the Muskies' two shots on goal all day during the first frame.
Lakeland came into the second half re-energized, as one of their two shots found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Lakeland's Shousei Suzuki.
With the game now tied, Concordia-Chicago had nearly 30 minutes to go to plate a game-winner.
Michael Bogart would prove to be the hero in this case, as the sophomore recorded his third goal of the season and first game-winning goal for the maroon and gold. With the goal, Bogart is now tied on the Cougar squad with a team-high seven points.
The Cougars will return to action on the road at Rockford for a midweek matchup this Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
