MILWAUKEE -- With everything on the line, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars traveled north to MSOE to take on the Raiders in a do-or-die, primetime matchup this evening. Despite a hard fought battle, CUC would ultimately fall 3-0 to end their 2019 campaign.
The contest opened up evenly tonight, as both teams tossed the ball around midfield and struggled to gain momentum. The Raiders began to gather their offense however, as they eventually went on to out shoot the Cougars 7-3 in the first half.
Down the stretch, one of MSOE's seven shots would fall as two Raiders combined for a near-side cross to a one-timer goal, in the 25th minute of play. While the Cougars fell behind 1-0 with 20 minutes to go, CUC's defense would buckle down and allow just two shots for the remainder of the frame.
Opening up the second half,
Esmeralda Torres led the offense and earned the Cougars a corner kick before just barely missing a shot, wide right. From there, the Raiders pressed CUC's defense and eventually earned a one-on-one with Vranjes to convert their second goal of the match.
MSOE would tack on one more goal before the conclusion of the match to secure the 3-0 victory. Overall, the Raiders out shot CUC 14-6. Keeper
Aleksia Vranjes finished the night with six saves and 45 total saves in her rookie season.
The Cougars end their season with a 6-11-2 record overall and a 6-4-1 conference ledger.
