Win Streak Ends at Five With Loss to Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Looking to pick up their sixth straight win, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars traveled down the road to rival Dominican University this afternoon. After a tight-lipped first half, the Stars' offense would explode and tally three late goals to ultimately win the rivalry match up, 4-0.

The first half proved to be a gridlock for the majority of the frame, with the exception of Dominican getting on the board in just the eighth minute of the game. Once the Cougars settled in, their defense turned on the heat as they allowed no more goals for the remainder of the half, despite facing seven shots. Keeper Jose Retana came up with three big stops too, that gave CUC a fighting chance going into the second period. Concordia continued its admirable defensive efforts after the break too, allowing no goals for another 25 minutes. However, the Stars' 10 second-half shots finally found the back of the net, as they put three more goals on the board in a five-minute span to run away with the 4-0 victory.

Retana had four saves on the day, while the Cougars were out shot 17-0 for the match.

With the loss, CUC drops to 8-7 on the season but will look to solidify a playoff berth this weekend as they head to Madison, Wis. to take on Edgewood College on Saturday afternoon.
