RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After picking up their third consecutive win for the first time in program history, the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer program has gained huge momentum heading into another big week in NACC play.Â
Setting the Scene... After a two-game stretch last week, CUC will remain on their home turf taking on Illinois Institute of Technology on Wednesday before hosting Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday, doubling as
Jose Retana's senior day. The midweek match up will begin at 3 p.m. while the Saturday tilt is set for a 12 p.m. start.Â
Streakin'... As mentioned, the CUC men's soccer program is amid a three-game win streak for the first time in program history. After defeating Lakeland 2-1 on Oct. 5, the Cougars have come out on the winning side of two more 2-1 victories last week. On Wednesday, CUC forced Rockford University into a double-overtime match, where
John Walsh netted the game-winning goal in the 106th minute of play. Then on Saturday, Concordia-Chicago trounced Marian in 2-1 fashion as
German Tinoco tallied the game-winner off a cross from Walsh.
Ready for Retana... Celebrating his senior day this Saturday,
Jose Retana has had a notable career thus far for the Concordia-Chicago Cougars. Currently leading the NACC with 77 saves this season, the Glendale Heights native is also second in the conference with an impressive .802 save percentage. With his help, CUC's group of netminders ranks 21st in Division III soccer with an average of 7.75 saves per game, along with his individual feat of 155 career saves to date.
All-time vs. the Scarlet Hawks... IIT is 5-8-1 overall this season, but just 1-4-1 in NACC play. Capturing their lone conference win over Benedictine, the Scarlet Hawks have averaged just 1.00 goals per game against conference opponents. With their fourth all-time match up against the Cougars slated for this Wednesday, the Scarlet Hawks have never dropped a game to CUC, dating back to 2016.
