Cougars Fall In Road Contest At CUW

Mequon, Wis. – Looking to win their second straight after defeating rival Dominican University on Saturday afternoon, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team took to the road to night for another rivalry matchup. They would take on rival Concordia University Wisconsin. The Falcons led CUC by ten at the half and CUC was unable to mount a comeback, falling by a 85-55 final score.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Sam Bloom and Crystal Corr finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.
  • CUC shot a season high 90 percent from the free throw line.
  • CUC forced 21 Falcon turnovers on the night.
  • CUW outscored CUC 24-2 in second chance points and held a 18 rebound advantage
 
In the first, CUC started off quick. Corr and Bloom gave CUC the opening baskets of the game and Kayla Horlacher made it 7-2 Cougars on a long three. The Falcons answered though with a 19-0 run of their own which was finally ended on a Maddie Vojacek jumper. McKayla Tilton and Vojacek then combined for back-to-back threes to pull CUC back within 24-15 at the end of one.
 

Bloom, Corr and Marie Baumgartner helped to keep CUC close early in the second quarter. The Cougars pulled back within six on an Annika Rae three with 5:49 remaining in the quarter. After a short CUW run it was Rae again to get CUC back within seven. The Falcons then were able to build their lead back to 42-32 to close the first half.

The Falcons were able to build on their lead in the third quarter. CUW shot 50 percent from the floor as they outscored CUC 17-6 in the quarter. CUC did not give up in the fourth. The Cougars fought back within 18 with a 9-0 run. Two threes by Bloom along with layups by Deja Southall and Corr powered the run. Unfortunately CUC was unable to continue the run, ultimately falling by a 85-55 final score.
 
The Cougars will now ready for a return trip to Wisconsin on Thursday night. They will take on Lakeland University at 7:00pm.
