PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Playing the second of three games this week, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team returned to Wisconsin for the second time in 48 hours to take on the Lakeland University Muskies. The Cougars struggled early against the stout Muskie defense and were unable to recover, falling by a 90-62 final score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Sam Bloom led the Cougars with 14 points on 6-15 shooting and had a game high four assists.
- McKayla Tilton had nine points on three first half threes.
- CUC recorded 17 assists on the night, the second highest total of the season.
- Lakeland shot 55.4 percent from the field and out rebounded CUC 47-23.
In the first, Lakeland scored the first five points before
Maddie Vojacek knocked down a baseline jumper to get on the board. Bloom and Tilton tried to keep CUC close in the quarter, but the Muskies were able to extend their lead to 23-9 at the end of the one.
Annika Rae ended the Lakeland run early in the second quarter with a jumper.
Kaylah Koehler got in on the scoring as well with a three from the right wing. The Cougars were able to force turnovers in the half, with
Michaela Thornton converting a
Deja Southall steal to get back within 21 late in the half. Lakeland would add on two free throws late to extend the lead to 48-25 at the half.
CUC made a run in the third midway through the third to try and cut into the deficit, but Lakeland was able to withstand and eventually extend their lead to as many as 29 in the third. The Cougars continued to fight in the fourth, but would fall by a final score of 90-62.
The Cougars will close the busy three game week on Saturday afternoon when they return to Geiseman Gymnasium. They will host Illinois Tech at 2:00pm.
