CUC Shuts Out Lakeland

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Concordia-Chicago kicked off the first game of two this weekend with a 2-0 shutout victory.

Prior to the men's game, the women looked to get into the win column for the first time this season versus Lakeland University (4-5-1; 0-1 NACC). After a strong offensive showing for the Cougars, they would do just that. They would out-shoot the Muskies by a total of 33-0 and win their first game of the season.

CUC jumped out to their first lead of the season off of a shot by Emma Stone that was deflected to a streaking Meghan Vasseur in the middle of the field. Vasseur toed one past the goalie to make the score 1-0. Following the goal, the Cougars thoroughly controlled possession and rarely let the ball get past the fifty-yard line. To end the first half, CUC outshot the Muskies by an 8-0 margin.

Opening the second half, the Cougars looked to keep the offense running smooth. Fifteen minutes in, they added six more shots at goal but had no scores to show for it. Finally, CUC got one past the goalie when Gabriella Wagoner was granted a corner kick and lofted one to Sydney Fuller. Fuller proceeded with heading the ball to the back of the net, giving Concordia-Chicago a 2-0 lead with under 10 minutes remaining. CUC would finish the game strong and win their first game of the season at a final of 2-0.

Concordia-Chicago will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, September 23 against Central College in River Forest. Game-time is set for 3:00 p.m.
