MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Despite pulling within just one goal of Monmouth College this afternoon, the Cougars eventually fell 6-2, thanks to a late scoring surge from the Scots.
Monmouth had taken a 2-0 lead within the first 30 minutes of play, and headed into the halftime break outshooting Concordia-Chicago just 10-9.
To open up the final 45 minutes,
Janette Moreno scored unassisted, just 23 seconds into the half, and cut CUC's deficit in half. The Scots were quick to respond, however, and pulled away with a 3-1 advantage at the 49:38 mark. Monmouth's Kara-Jade Gordon scored her team's third goal of the match, which would ultimately be the game-winner.Â
In the 51st minute of play, the Cougars answered back.
Emily Ordonez netted the ball off a
Samantha Wozniak assist and pulled within one goal, again, and trailed 3-2 with 40 minutes left to go.
Over the final stretch, the Scots would score three more times and run away with the 6-2 lead. Scots Jacie Reis and Gordon each scored two goals apiece.Â
The Cougars earned five corner kicks in today's match up, opposed to just one for Monmouth.
CUC will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19Â at 2 p.m. The Cougars are set to take on Benedictine at Concordia Stadium.
