RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team will head to Wheaton College this evening, to cap off its non-conference schedule against the Thunder.
This Week:
The Cougars will play their lone game of the week tonight, with CUC and Wheaton hitting the pitch at 7 p.m. CDT.
Last Time Out:
Gerardo Medina and
Ryan Kuhlman led the offense in the Cougars' last game against Moody Bible. In its official home opener, CUC defeated the Archers, 4-1 to snag the first win of 2018. Medina and Kuhlman each had two goals with assists coming from freshman
Jared Farnsworth and Senior
Peter Munro.
Fresh Eyes:
With 11 newcomers to the team this season, several have proven to be key contributors already, through the first two games of the season. In last week's match up with Moody Bible, five newcomers, consisted of four freshmen and one sophomore earned the start. All 11 players saw action in the game. Freshmen
Jared Farnsworth and
Ryan Kuhlman saw career firsts, as both earned their first career points along with Farnsworth dishing his first two assists and Kuhlman netting his first two goals in a CUC uniform.
Thunder Struck:
The Cougars will face a competitive Wheaton team tonight, as the Thunder have defeated fellow NACC member Benedictine University, 5-0, and tied with Albion College, 2-2, earlier this season. Members of the CCIW, Wheaton was predicted to finish second overall in the preseason polls. Currently, 10 members of the Thunder have tallied points this season, with keeper Hasten Biddlecome holding a 1.02 goals allowed average in nearly 178 minutes of play.
Down the Pike:
After tonight's match up, Concordia-Chicago will set their sights on conference play action. NACC competition will begin next Wednesday, Sept. 19 for the Cougars, as they travel to Lisle, Ill. to face Benedictine.
