Pipers First Half Run Too Much For Cougars

Minneapolis, Minn.- Concordia Chicago concluded their four game road trip this morning when they took on Hamline University.  Sitting atop the conference, the Cougars knew they had a tough task ahead of them.  Unfortunately, the Pipers came out clicking on all cylinders in the first half and built a big lead that was too much for the Cougars to overcome.

Margaret Doane led the Cougars with three goals on the morning and also had three groundballs, one caused turnover, and two draw controls.

Concordia Chicago got things rolling right away early in the game.  Sydney Fuller got around Hamline defenders and fired a shot past their goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.  The lead didn't last long as Hamline came right back with three goals of their own in a two minute span to take a 3-1 lead.  CUC kept pressuring on the attack, specifically Anna Kellar who had five shots, but they could not get the ball past the Hamline's goalkeeper Molly Dionne.  Dionne came up with huge stops to limit the Cougars to only two goals in the first half.  Building off that momentum, the Pipers got on the offensive attack scored ten straight goals before Doane got on the board for the Cougars to make it 10-2.  Hamline added two more late and took a 12-2 lead into halftime.

The second half didn't have much going on on the offensive side of the field.  With the Pipers having a big lead, they focused on playing defense and picking their opportunities on offense.  For the Cougars, Doane did add two more goals to get the hat trick, but it was not enough as Hamline went on to win by the final score of 17-4.

Concordia-Chicago (2-9, 1-5 MWLC) return to action next Thursday, April 12, when they return home to take on Aurora University.  Opening draw is set for 1:00pm.
