River Forest, Ill. - After picking up a sweep of Edgewood yesterday, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars Softball team took to the field for the fourth straight day. Today they celebrated their four seniors,
Stefanie D'Anna,
Allison Kruk,
Katie Sullivan and
Julianne Nation following the two games against the Rockford Regents. The Cougars used the long ball to roll past the Regents by scores of 11-3 and 14-3. In total CUC hit six homeruns on the day. Kruk also was able to extend her hit streak to 13 straight at bats on the day, before it was broken in game two.

In game one, CUC got the scoring going in the bottom of the first.
Melissa Balkema led things off with a bunt single. D'Anna followed with a bunt single of her own. With runners on second and third, Kruk extended her consecutive hit streak to 10 at bats on a single up the middle, scoring two. A single by
Sydney Getz scored Kruk, and a walk to
Shania Phillips put two on for
Kristen Landon. Landon went deep to straight away center field for her second home run of the year on a 2-0 pitch to push the lead to 6-0.

The Cougars added another in the second inning on a Balkema line drive homerun to straight away center. Balkema was back at it again in the fourth when she would lead off the inning with her second homer of the game, this time to left. Kruk continued her tear with a double in the inning but was stranded.

Leading 8-3 in the sixth, CUC got the offense going once again. Balkema started the inning off with a triple to left, her fourth hit of the game. D'Anna followed with a double to right center off the wall. Kruk then ripped her 13
th straight hit in as many at bats to make it 10-3. She then came in to score on a fielders' choice to end the game at 11-3.

Balkema and Kruk paced the offense with four hits each. Balkema led with four runs scored while Kruk drove in four. Landon drove in three of her own as well. Nation worked the complete game for CUC, picking up her sixth win of the season. The senior allowed six hits and three runs while striking out three.

In game two, the Cougars responded to a first inning Rockford run in a big way. Balkema led off the eight run inning with a walk. Two outs later, a
Sydney Getz bunt single and a walk loaded the bases.
Nia DeGeorge tied the game by driving an 0-1 pitch through the left side. A walk plated a second run in the inning, and a Sullivan single scored two.
Sydney Sterrett continued the inning with a double of her own to left center. Batting for the second time in the inning, Balkema reached on an infield single. A dropped fly ball allowed another run to score, making it 8-1 CUC after one.

The Cougars continued their outpouring on offense in the second. With one on and one out Degeorge homered to left field, her second in as many days. Not to be out done, Landon followed by sending her second long ball of the day over the left center field fence, pushing the Cougar lead to 11-1. CUC closed their scoring on the day with a
Marita Van Dyke homer to left field, scoring three.

Karlee Knight picked up her first collegiate win inside the circle in the 14-3 game two win. She worked the first three innings, allowing three hits and two runs. Nation then worked the final two innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five. Â Every Cougar starter recorded a hit in the game two victory. Sullivan led the offense with three hits and two RBI's.

The Cougars (18-9; 9-3 NACC) will enjoy a day off tomorrow before they host Lakeland University on Tuesday afternoon in River Forest. First pitch is set for 3:00pm.
