Cougars Fall To Lady Reds In Non-Conference Matchup

Kenosha, Wis.- Concordia Chicago went back on the road this evening to take on a very talented Carthage College team.  Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Lady Reds used their hot start to take control of the game and go on to win by the final score of 14-5.

Anna Kellar and Sydney Fuller led the Cougars with two points each.  Kellar had two goals, two groundballs, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.  Fuller finished with a goal, an assist, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Out of the gate, Carthage came out firing scoring four goals within the first seven minutes of the game to force a CUC timeout.  Out of the timeout, the Cougars picked up some momentum as Margaret Doane and Fuller continued their strong play scoring back to back goals to cut the lead to 4-2.  Carthage quickly halted any sort of momentum as they scored five straight goals to close out the half and lead 9-2.

It was a slow start for CUC in the second half.  The Lady Reds used their defense to create their offense as they score three goals to take a commanding ten goal lead.  The Cougars scored on back to back goals for the second time of the game by Kellar and Elizabeth Cyrwus to cut the lead back to eight and force a Carthage timeout.  The Lady Reds again, came right back to get their lead back to ten.  Kellar added another goal late, but Carthage went on to win 14-5.

Concordia-Chicago (3-11, 2-6 MWLC) returns to action Saturday when they come home to face Wartburg College.  Opening draw is set for 1:00pm.
