Clermont, Fla. - After a sweep of the day on Wednesday, the Concordia University Chicago Cougar Softball team looked for a repeat performance today. The Cougars got it, as the bats continued to roll. CUC used a 15 hit effort in game one to down Mount Union by a final score of 11-6. The Cougars then used ten hits in game two to come back late by a final score of 6-5.

In game one, Mount Union scored first with a two run homerun in the top half of the first. CUC got one back in the bottom half of the inning when
Shania Phillips doubled home
Stefanie D'Anna. The Cougars then grabbed momentum with four runs in the second inning. The first three batters would reach in the inning for CUC on a walk and two fielder's choices that were not in time to get runners on bunt attempts. With one out,
Melissa Balkema took a full count pitch and doubled home two runs to take the lead back.
Marita Van Dyke then added to the lead with a single on the first pitch, scoring
Kristen Landon and Balkema.

CUC continued to add on in the bottom of the third. With one out
Katie Sullivan, Landon and D'Anna all singled to load the bases. One out later, Phillips delivered an RBI single to center, followed by a Van Dyke double scoring three.
Sydney Getz drove home the final run of the inning, shooting a ball through the right side, pushing the CUC lead to 10-2.

Mount Union worked their way back within 10-6 in the sixth, but CUC added an insurance run in the bottom half on an
Elizabeth Foxley single.

In total, CUC combined for 15 hits on the game, with everyone in the starting lineup recording a hit, and five players recording more than one. Van Dyke drove home a team high five runs in the game. Van Dyke also picked up her third win of the trip inside the circle for CUC throwing a complete game.

In game two, CUC struggled to get going early. Bridgewater State built up a 5-0 lead through the first five innings while limiting CUC to just three hits. The Cougars showed grit though over the last two innings to comeback.

The rally started in the sixth. With a runner on and no one out, Riley Mcguire singled through the left side. Getz followed with a single to center, plating the first run of the inning. One out later, Landon singled through the left side bringing home the second run of the inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, freshman
Sydney Sterrett doubled down the left field line, scoring both Landon and Getz, and pulling CUC back within 5-4.

CUC continued to pressure the Bears in the seventh. D'Anna led off with a bunt single to start the inning. She then quickly stole second to get in scoring position. One out later,
Allison Kruk laid down a perfect bunt of her own to put runners on the corners. Getz then plated the tying run on a single into left. Van Dyke followed by working a full count walk to load the bases. Landon then played the role of hero, delivering a sac fly into left, allowing Kruk to score the go-ahead run. Van Dyke then worked around a walk and a hit in the seventh, using a double play ball to second base to seal CUC's fourth straight win.

Getz, Landon and Sterrett all had two hits in game two for CUC, while combining to drive in all six of the Cougars runs. Inside the circle it was a full effort from three pitchers.
Karlee Knight got the nod for her first start as a Cougar, going two and a third, allowing two earned runs.
Julianne Nation followed before giving way to Van Dyke, who picked up her fourth win of the trip, by working the final two innings.

The Cougars (6-2) will look to close out the trip on a high note tomorrow when they take on Millikin University and Monmouth College. First pitch is set for 9:00am (EST).
