Sabres Take Control Early To Beat Cougars

Fond du Lac, Wis.- Concordia Chicago came into today's game against Marian looking to break their four game losing streak and four game goalless streak.  The Cougars defense has been holding up all things considered, but CUC hoped to get into the scoring column and put a full 60 minutes together.  The Sabres were able to pressure the Cougars defense and attack at will to go on to win 23-2.

DeMond Menefee and Hunter Combe each had a goal to lead the Cougars.  Goalkeeper Jack Liskey made 17 saves on the afternoon for a .425 save percentage

The first quarter started slow for both teams as they settled into a chilly and windy day.  Marian got on the scoreboard first to take a 1-0 lead.  The Cougars quickly responded with their first goal in four games as Menefee found a lane to drive and fired one past the Sabres goalkeeper to tie the game at 1.  From there, Marian's offense got it going as they score three more goals to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first.  The second quarter wasn't any better as the Sabres scored seven more goals and held the Cougars scoreless to take a 11-1 lead into halftime.

The second half the Sabres continued their offensive attack scoring twelve goals.  The Cougars did get one more goal late in the game by Combe, but it was not enough as Marian won by the final score of 23-2.

Concordia-Chicago (1-8, 0-3 MLC) will be back in action next Saturday, April 7, when they conclude their five game road trip at MSOE.  Face-off is set for 1:00pm.
