Mount Vernon, Iowa.- The Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team began their five game road trip this afternoon when they took on Cornell College. The first quarter was very evenly matched as, but the Rams held a 2-0 lead. From there, Cornell opened up the game scoring five goals in the second to take a 7-0 lead into halftime. The Rams closed out the game to beat the Cougars by the final score of 12-0.
Hunter Combe led the Cougars with four shots and four groundballs. Jack Liskey made 14 saves on the afternoon to go along with five groundballs.
Minutes into the game, the Cougars threatened, but the shot from Combe went just wide of the net. The Rams found themselves possessing the ball quite a bit, finally capitalizing on two goals one minute apart. Late in the quarter, Jordan Loeffler had another scoring opportunity, but the Cornell goalkeeper made a great save to keep CUC scoreless. The second quarter wasn't too kind to the Cougars as the Rams netted five goals to take a commanding 7-0 lead into halftime.
The second half was more of a defensive type game for Cornell. Concordia-Chicago only mustered two shots in the second half as the Rams tacked on five more goals to go on to win 12-0.
Concordia-Chicago (1-5, 0-2 MLC) will be back in action this Wednesday when they continue on their road trip to Angola, Ind. to take on Trine University. Face-off is set for 5:00pm central time.
